AI Agents: The Future of Productivity (and What It Means for YOU)
Greetings, Future Tech Titans! đź‘‹
Have you heard the buzz about AI agents? They're not just the latest fad – they're about to revolutionize how we work, live, and interact with technology.
I recently stumbled upon two fascinating discussions that got me thinking: Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella predicting the "end of apps" and Bloomberg calling 2025 the "year of AI agents." It's a bold vision! Honestly, it's got me both excited and a little terrified.
You know, it's funny how things change. We've built this incredible helpdesk team – three excellent engineers who can handle anything our users throw at them in English, Japanese, and Chinese. Seriously, these guys are like ninjas; they close tickets almost before they even come in! We've followed ITIL's best practices to the letter, making our helpdesk the single point of contact for any IT needs in the organization.
But here's the thing: we're at a crossroads. Due to some internal shifts (that I can't reasonably discuss publicly yet), we need to make a change. And that's got me thinking... do we replace these rockstar engineers with another set of humans? Or could this be the perfect opportunity to explore the potential of AI agents?
It's a fascinating challenge, especially considering the regulatory landscape here in Japan. Integrating AI requires careful consideration, as much of our sensitive information resides on-premise. But the potential benefits are undeniable – imagine the possibilities for modernization, cost savings, and even elevating the level of service we provide!
Over the coming weeks, we'll run exciting proof-of-concept projects with AI agents. I'm eager to see how they perform and share our journey. This is uncharted territory, and I'm sure valuable lessons will be learned along the way. So, if you're curious about the future of helpdesk support and the role AI can play, stay tuned! Consider this your invitation to follow along as we dive headfirst into this AI-powered adventure.

Risk Management & Strategy
Risk management has become a big deal for boards — arguably an obsession. They spend a disproportionate amount of time on it — and not very productively. I think there is a more constructive way for boards (and their management teams) to deal with risk, which I discuss in this Playing to Win/Practitioner Insights piece entitled Risk Management & Strategy: The Centrality of What Would Have to be True.
